Ana's November 9th Quilt

Based on the events of November 8th, 2016, Ana decided to make a quilt to reflect her feelings of everything that was happening. In light of that, I added some "angry quilting" patches to the design. The majority of the thread is a dark gray, with an accent of a bright green thread in certain areas. I love how it turned out!

CVAMQG QuiltCon Charity Quilt!

I am proud to have been a part of the Central Virginia Modern Quilt Guild charity quilt that will be headed to QuiltCon and displayed with other great quilts! There will be a post explaining our design, but the title is "The James: Not to Scale." At first, I thought that I'd quilt all of the blocks with a similar geographic - topography type quilting, but then each of the blocks had their own special design and voice that was speaking to me. In the end, I went with unique designs for each, just how all of our blocks are unique and have their own voice. Here are some closeup pictures of how the individual blocks were quilted.

'Twas the Night Quilt

Check out this stunning quilt by Ann! The embroidery is amazing and this will surely be a fantastic wall hanging. Custom quilting was definitely the way to go with this one!

Flower Wool Applique

This next quilt is absolutely gorgeous! It was made by Donna and of course it deserved some custom quilting! Each block has some unique quilting to highlight her hard work. Love it.

Weimaraner Applique

This adorable quilt was appliqued by Diane with tons of negative space. When I saw it, I knew I had to quilt this cute pup into a scene. I placed him on a hill with a large tree in the foreground and smaller trees in the background. And of course some leaves blowing in the wind! I love how this one turned out!

Halloween Urban Pods

This quilt is actually one of mine! That doesn't happen too often. I made it out of Halloween fabric, one of my favorite holidays. The pattern is called Urban Pods by Sew Kind of Wonderful. I made the border larger than it called for so that it would be big enough for our couch. I even quilted in some spider webs!

Swirly Girls Design's Machine Pieced Hexagon Quilt

This hexagon quilt was entirely pieced by machine! So cool!  I wanted to highlight the centers of the hexagon shapes with a feather motif that resembled a flower.  The very center deserved a different design to create more intrigue.  I repeated that center design in shadow hexagons on the four corners of the hexagon rings. These contrasted the flower shapes with straight lines radiating out of the center.  The background filler mimics the swirls in the centers of the hexagon flowers and complements and gives the eye a place to rest.  With simple, thought out designs, the overall look of the quilting is very cohesive and creates a great finished piece!

Susan's Exclamation Quilt for Swirly Girls Design

Here is a custom quilting job that I fall in love with every time I see it.  This quilt is one of a series that I completed for Swirly Girls Design.  I used different quilting motifs for each of the color changes in the quilt and created a separate design pattern in the white areas of the quilt.  It almost makes it look like a modern flower or wedding ring pattern.  I can't stop looking at the pictures!
